I currently use an Apple TV 4K, which is - as far as I’m aware - more or less the best streaming box you can buy. However, it’s the version without ethernet, and Steam Link has become a dog over wifi for some reason. So I figured I’d look around to see if there’s an alternative solution.
Hardware-wise, I have a Dell Optiplex 3020 or a 2014 Mac mini (running Debian), to choose from, but have no real idea where to go from there, beyond the vague notion that KDE have put big screen mode back into beta. I did have a play with that a few months ago in a VM, but was struck that there were (obviously) no applications that made any real use of it.
Does anyone out there run anything they’ve built themselves? If so, what?

I for the longest time was an Apple fan girl but than the boycott the US stuff started happening and Tim Cook gave Trump that Golden Apple, I know it was just a bribe to keep their stuff going without to much pain but that was the straw for me. If I had the money I would have replaced my phone and ipad right than an there as well, but this is all besides the point.
I had an extra pi 5 just looking to be used so I flashed raspberry OS onto a thumb drive and plugged it into my TV I have Librewolf with adguard blocking all the youtube ads, my plan was to also have all my other streaming services in different tabs but the pi 5 does not have the power to do that well.
In a few weeks I hope to get a hand me down 2018 Mac mini that I will install Debian on and set it up as my TV box, it will hopefully be able to do better than my pi 5. I currently have a 2014 Mac Mini with debian running Jellyfin and my arr stack and it does a lot better than the pi 5 at that.
